Sowing the mission together: SME at the Montreal Vocational Fair

On November 8, 2025, Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal hosted a vocational fair organized by Carrefour Intervocationnel de Québec. Among the many groups and communities in attendance, the Quebec Foreign Mission Society (SME) stood out for the warmth and diversity of its Quebec City team, whose presence testified to the missionary dynamism that animates them.

Around the SME kiosk, visitors discovered a space for meeting, dialogue, and sharing. The team consisted of Bernard Duquette and Juan Ramon Moncada, missionary priests from the Quebec Foreign Mission Society (SME), Martine Sanfaçon and Yves Bédard, lay associates of the SME, Pedro Perna, involved in missionary animation, and Nicolas Côté, a new member of the Quebec City missionary team and a theology student at Laval University. Together, they formed a beautiful image of the Church on the move, united by the same desire to sow life wherever they are. The presence of Diover Zabala, a lay missionary who has been associated with Cambodia for 10 years, recalled the universal and fraternal dimension of the mission, lived beyond borders and cultures.

Their participation was primarily aimed at raising awareness of the SME's mission and charism, forging links, and encouraging discussion about the missionary vocation. Throughout the day, the team members had the joy of meeting young people curious about the mission, people who had already met missionaries abroad, as well as several representatives of other religious communities and other Church institutes and groups. These reunions and new friendships were seeds of hope.

Through this day, the SME was able to reaffirm its deep conviction: mission is first and foremost an encounter. In an atmosphere of listening, joy, and shared faith, the Quebec City team testified that when vocations intersect and take root together, mission bears fruit.
