The Quebec Foreign Mission Society decided to chart its first course toward China in 1925.  This was the Society’s first mission.  It was also, without question, the most difficult mission of all to establish.
Indeed, the history of the SME’s presence in China is full of twists and turns.  The Society first settled in Manchuria, but some of its members ended up being jailed and ultimately expelled.  Many years later, the Society decided to set up a mission in Hong Kong, where it still is active today, due in large part to the steadfast dedication and commitment of its members and associates to live in solidarity with the poor, and to its social justice initiatives, especially among the working class.
