BRAZIL

The Quebec Foreign Mission Society (SME) has been present in Brazil since 1992, based in Manaus in the Amazon region.   It is here in Brazil that the Society implemented an important change of practice in its mission operations:   local mission groups would no longer be comprised of only priests, but would now also include lay associates.

CAMBODIA

In 1995, the Quebec Foreign Mission Society (SME) arrives in Cambodia, a country recovering from a horrifying genocide, and fifteen years of foreign occupation.  During this period, Vietnam, the Communist-leaning colonizing country where the main spiritual practices are Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, exercise an important influence over local customs.  Under the regime, the Christians in Cambodia are forced to practice their faith in secret.

CANADA

In September 1924, the Grand Seminary of the Quebec Foreign Mission Society opens its doors in Laval, Quebec (Canada).  This site is currently the residence of some 60 priests who have returned home from their mission assignments to stay.  It is also home to the Society’s administrative offices and its local animation department, and is now called the Mother House of the SME.  The Head Office of the Society is also to be found at this address.

HONDURAS

Since 1955, the Quebec Foreign Mission Society (SME) has provided training for priests in Honduras, in addition to many other initiatives in their efforts to revitalize the local Church.  One such initiative was the “Ambassadors of the Word” program that began in 1966 in the Diocese of Choluteca, under the guidance and leadership of the SME.  This has become one of the most fruitful pastoral initiatives in all of Latin America.

HONG KONG - CHINA

The Quebec Foreign Mission Society decided to chart its first course toward China in 1925.

JAPAN

In 1948, the Quebec Foreign Mission Society sets up a mission in Japan, a country devastated by the Second World War. 

Christianity already has a foothold here, since 1549, thanks to the missionary zeal of Francis Xavier...

KENYA

The Quebec Foreign Mission Society has been present in Kenya since the year 2000.  They established in Nairobi their Theological Formation Centre for young men considering missionary priesthood, replacing the Grand Seminary in Laval, Canada, where the pioneers of the Society, its first foreign mission priests (p.m.e.), were formed and sent forth.

PERU

It is in 1956 that the Quebec Foreign Mission Society (SME) arrives in Peru, specifically in Pucallpa in the Amazon Basin.  They later move to Ica, Lima and Carabayllo.
The SME has a long list of achievements in Peru, such as:  schools, dispensaries, credit unions, youth centres, minor seminaries, etc.

PHILIPPINES

In 1937, the Quebec Foreign Mission Society accepts to go on mission in the Philippines, which later becomes the place where the Society sends the vast majority of its members.
From 1937 to 2011, the Society worked vigourously for the growth and autonomy of the local Church.
